A one-two finish in the 400m to Dominic Hoskins and Kwame Porter was the highlight for Athletics Essendon’s Division 1 men at the second round of Athletics Victoria Shield Yellow Zone at Newport on Saturday.
In wild, windy conditions, the pair posted respective times of 51.32sec and 52.13sec to help steer their team to second place behind Melbourne University for a second straight week.
Dylan Jones also topped the standings in the discus with a throw of 36.88m.
After a shaky start in the opening round, the club’s open women put in a somewhat stronger performance, taking third place behind Melbourne University and Keilor St Bernard’s in Division 1.
