Many club members have asked for congrats to our premier teams, under 18 men and particularly triple women div 1 premiers to be added to the web site. Current president, Don Martin and former presidents Ian Williams, Dan White, John Higham and Max Warlow have all acknowledged the achievment. Click for more.

Stephanie Lockhart CONGRATULATIONS FROM CLUB PRESIDENT (Don Martin) Athletics Essendon had a fantastic day at the state finals of interclub last Saturday. We went into the final with four teams and came away with two premierships and a second place. The last two years we have been the largest club in Victoria and at Doncaster we showed that we certainly are the strongest. The 40 plus men got off to a great start, but the stronger opposition wore them down over the day - eventually finishing fifth. The under 14 girls came a very close second to KSB. The under 18 boys dominated all day as they have all season with good performances across all the events. Our open women had a sensational day winning the State Title for the third year running - something I believe hasn't been done before. The way they have worked together and performed all year is something we should all be proud of. Congratulations to those who competed throughout the year enabling the club to put such strong teams on the track and especially to all those who participated on the day. The Team Managers deserve a special mention - they have turned up each week to organize their teams, getting athletes qualified and making sure people were there to compete on the day. Many thanks to the parents of the junior teams who get there children to the various venues, the officials who not only worked on Saturday but throughout the year and to the spectators who turned up to support the club at the Venue Final and the State Final GIRLS AN INSPIRATION TO ALL! (Max Warlow) Brad Carter's Division 1 girls have done it again - winning the Inter-venue Premiership, cementing their claim as the best Female Division 1 Team in the State. Brad's organisation of his team is fantastic and is rewarded by the girls attitude and output. Take for example, Amanda Crook and Stephanie Mollica. Amanda and Stephanie competed in Hobart on Friday 12/2 and caught a flight back to Melbourne in order to be able to represent our club on Saturday 13/2. Other girls step up and do events they do not ordinarily do for the good of the team and club. I had always maintained the best achievement of my time as President of this club, some 25 years ago was the changing of the Constitution to enable women to be club members. Despite having some great female athletes for 2 decades being the top women's team in the State eluded the club. Then finally, under Brad's guidance and management we achieved what I had hoped for all those years ago. The introduction of women to this club was a wonderful success both on and off the track. You (girls) make me very proud. |
